On Saturday, May 17 KidsVoice hosted their annual Kites for Kids community event at the Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium. The event coincides with Child Abuse Prevention and Foster Care Awareness months, April and May respectively, and is meant to raise awareness for both. Over 4,000 community members visited the zoo between 11am and 3pm and enjoyed a variety of craft and game booths as well as face painting, airbrush tattoos and a spectacular show by Pittsburgh’s premiere professional kite flyers. The zoo was beautifully adorned with hundreds of kites decorated by KidsVoice clients, symbolizing hope, a happy childhood and a chance to soar, things that unfortunately many local kids do not experience. Perhaps most importantly, many KidsVoice clients who live in foster care or group homes attended Kites for Kids anonymously, giving them a very rare opportunity to enjoy a fun day at the zoo.
